1950 — CHAMPION CHEMICAL COMPANY FOUNDED

Champion Chemicals is established and grows over the following six decades into a major specialty chemicals provider-reaching over $1 billion in annual revenue by 2010. Champion's core businesses span oilfield chemicals, water and process treatment, and wholesale chemical manufacturing.

1993 — MULTI-CHEM GROUP FOUNDED - WEST TEXAS

Multi-Chem Group is established as a standalone chemical services business focused on oilfield production chemistry in West Texas - building deep expertise in upstream production chemicals and field services across North American basins.

2012 — SPECIALITY CHEMICALS BUSINESS EXPANDS DOWNSTREAM

The specialty chemicals landscape evolves significantly as major chemical businesses consolidate. A new independent specialty chemical provider - Athlon Solutions - emerges to serve downstream, heavy industrial, and water treatment markets, continuing the legacy of expert chemistry and service.

2018 — DOWNSTREAM & HEAVY INDUSTRIAL PORTFOLIO ACQUIRED

The downstream specialty chemicals business is acquired and integrated into a broader energy services platform-adding production, midstream, water treatment, and heavy industrial capabilities alongside wholesale manufacturing at U.S. and Saudi Arabia plants with EO/PO chemistry.

2023 — UNIFIED UNDER A SINGLE SPECIALITY CHEMICALS BRAND

Production, midstream, and industrial water treatment operations are unified under a single specialty chemicals brand-creating a comprehensive, end-to-end specialty chemical offering for the oilfield, midstream, downstream, and heavy industrial markets under one identity.

2025-26 : STERLING MULTI-CHEM - A NEW CHAPTER BEGINS (MAY 1)

On November 21, 2025, Sterling Specialty Chemicals signed a definitive agreement to acquire the specialty chemicals business, including the chemical and contract manufacturing operations in the U.S. and Saudi Arabia. Effective May 1, 2026, the business launches as Sterling Multi-Chem, a Sterling Specialty Chemicals company and part of the Praana Group.
